Our friends at the Civic Business Initiative, an organization with which the Dialogue Project has a long-standing relationship, drafted the below statement after Saturday’s violence in Butler, PA. We fully support this message and wanted to share it here with our own constituents.

Violence has no place in our political process. Period. We unequivocally condemn violence against any candidate, political leader, or their supporters, as do the overwhelming majority of Americans. We are glad former president Trump is safe. Our hearts are with the individual who lost his life and his loved ones.

In the coming days and weeks, it is important for us to come together and remember that we have ways to work out our differences peacefully. Our political process and our democracy depend on our ability to remember that we are all Americans. We remain committed to this ideal, and we invite everyone to join us in reaffirming their commitment as well. We are glad to see leaders of all stripes and backgrounds speaking out against violence publicly and in no uncertain terms.

We also call on people to take care in what information they share or amplify. In situations like this, it is crucial that we don’t let bad actors use this to divide us.
